FAQ
Plumbing contractor insurance FAQ.
Plain answers to the questions Texas plumbing company owners ask most.
What insurance does a plumbing company in Texas need?
At minimum, a Responsible Master Plumber must maintain $300,000 in commercial general liability, and vehicles must meet Texas auto requirements. Established plumbing companies typically carry general liability, commercial auto, workers’ compensation, tools and equipment, property, and umbrella coverage. See what insurance plumbers need.
What is the TSBPE insurance requirement for an RMP?
The Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners requires commercial general liability of at least $300,000, documented on the Board’s own Certificate of Insurance form. ACORD certificates are not accepted. See RMP insurance requirements.
Does general liability cover water damage from my work?
It depends on the policy. Many standard forms may cover damage your work causes to other property, while the cost of redoing your own work generally isn’t covered. Exclusions and endorsements make a big difference. See general liability.
Are my tools covered by my auto policy?
Generally no. Commercial auto covers the vehicle; tools and equipment are usually covered under inland marine. See tools and equipment.
Do I have to carry workers’ compensation in Texas?
Most private Texas employers may choose not to, but nonsubscribers lose important legal defenses, many contracts require coverage, and public building or construction projects generally require it. See workers’ compensation.
What limits do general contractors usually require?
Commonly $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate in general liability, plus umbrella limits, additional insured status, waiver of subrogation, and primary and non-contributory wording. Requirements vary by contract.
Do you work with residential plumbers?
